At the halfway point of the season 'Ensians can look back on the most successful
start to a season for many years with the 1st XV lying 2nd in their League having
lost only one League match. The second XV is also doing well under skipper Alan
Garnett with 7 wins to date and in their Merit League table they currently lie in 4th
place.
For the 1st XV the leading scorer is Kristian Keinhorst with 97 points from 3 tries, 23
conversions, 11 penalties and 1 drop goal. Luke Cowdell is leading try scorer with
13. The honours in the 2nd XV go to Matty Tenniswood with 65 points from 3 tries, 19
conversions and 4 penalties. Leading try scorers are: Das Cooley, Ben Hatton, Toby
Leiber, Rob Lofhouse and Ben Smith all with 4 each.
With the floodlights continuing to provide first class training opportunities this season
coupled with the varied coaching programme, the good attendances from last season
have continued to improve along with the levels of fitness and skills.
Looking forward to the second half of the season Club Coach John Walker said - "I
am very pleased with the progress we have made this season. We have a young
squad and our aim is to play fast open rugby and we have succeeded in doing this
in most games so far. There is an excellent spirit among the players and we have
managed to build up strength in depth which is good for competition for places and
for coping with injuries. The players are showing excellent commitment and we shall
need this to come out on top in some testing encounters in the New Year".
