AGM 2005
The President, Adrian Normanton, opened the meeting with a short silence for
Club Members and past players who had passed on during the last 12 months.
He continued by noting the steady improvement in the playing records last
season and the disappointment that the challenge for promotion came unstuck
in the post- Christmas period when for various reasons the 1st XV played one
game in 5 weeks. 1st XV won 13 out of 20 League games and finished 4th
compared with 7th in the previous season.
The 2nd XV, had an excellent season winning 18 games, finishing 5th in their
Merit table. The 3rd XV played over the Christmas period and it is
anticipated that a 3rd XV will operate for periods in the coming season.
Peter Latham will again be coach and training sessions have been taking
place on Tuesday and Thursday for several weeks. The Players were asked to
ensure they gave Peter full support all season.
It was good to again have some of the PHGS team and recent leavers play for
us during the year and also to see them at the Club dinner. At the dinner,
Awards were given to Roy Appleyard (Reg. Marshal Trophy), John Woods (1st XV
Player of the Year) and to Tony Myers (Young Player of the Year)
New Awards were instituted; James Bush (Most Improved Player), Will Foster
(Newcomer of the Year), Tony Greenfield (Student Player of the Year) and the
Second XV Player of the Year was awarded to "The Team"
The Monday Gang worked wonders last season on the Club facilities and
members should all be grateful for their efforts. Members were asked to note
the website (www.oorufc.co.uk) and thanks were expressed to Roy Appleyard,
the webmaster
Dr Normanton concluded by thanking all those who had helped the Club and
emphasised that Old Otliensians would strive to provide an appropriate
standard of rugby for as many players as possible in the coming season.
The meeting continued with a report from Andrew Rayner in his second year as
Secretary who emphasised many of the points raised above and also the
recruitment of players who had raised the standard during last season and
that costs of the Club now just exceed income.
In his Fixture Secretary/Match Secretary’s report Adrian Normanton gave a
comprehensive review of the season past, noting the 16 tries from wing
Jonathan Woods in a season curtailed by injury.
In the coming season ‘Ensians play Hullensians away in the YRFU Silver
Trophy in November. The Secretary expressed his thanks to all the referees
who had been to Otliensians during the past season and to the North Yorks. &
