OORUFC 80 vs 0 Barnsley
Ensians top the League
On a mild calm Autumn day, with the pitch in fine condition third placed Old Otliensians welcomed Barnsley to Chaffer’s Field .
Despite their lowly position in the league the visitors started strongly, spending the first few minutes in the Home 22, and should have taken the lead with a two man overlap five metres from the line.
However the Blues soon” upped” their play and after one scorching move which was stopped short of the line the ball was recycled and Will Cooper dived over for the first try converted by Jake Bentley. ‘Ensians were giving away too many penalties enabling Barnsley to gain territory in the Home half but from an ‘Ensians penalty in their 22 a nice kick made ground and from the ensuing lineout slick passing across the backs resulted in speedy Will Howarth outpacing the defence to score a try also converted by Jake Bentley.In the next 10 minutes swift open play ended with Will Howarth scoring two more tries one converted by Jake Bentley
Barnsley were more or less holding their own up front but had no answer once the home superb passing opened the ball wide .Will Howarth scored two more tries before half time both converted by Jake Bentley making the score 40 points to nil.The first of these was a little bit of magic—a Barnsley clearance kick went straight to Will Howarth who neatly dummied the defender and ran 60 metres to the try line.
The second half was a superb dsisplay of rugby ,the whole ‘Ensians team combining together to make a formidable unit. The forwards worked hard with the scrum working well, Ali Campbell prominent in the lineouts ,Jay Walsh in the loose, Scrum Half Sydney Dojahn- Wood and Olly Eaves getting the Backs moving and Full Back Spencer Dojahn-Wood creating all sorts of problems.
Barnsley never gave up and defended well but tired as the game progressed.
Tries were scored by Will Howarth (his 6th),Ali Campbell.,Jay Walsh, Harry Wales, Spencer Dojahn-Wood and Isaac Gillson five of which were converted by Jake Bentley to make a final score of 80 points to nil.
