Old Otliensians opponents Richmondshire earned the admiration and great credit from the home team and supporters for travelling the 50 miles to Otley to play Ensians after their crushing defeat only three weeks before. Their new coaching team of Stephen Michael and Matthew Cuckson said they had spent all week on tackling practice.
However, despite never giving up and supporting each other throughout the game ,the visitors were up against it from the kick off. They were confronted by the excellent open play of the home team ,combining well between forwards and backs, and using the whole width of the pitch to outpace the visitors.
In all 'Ensians scored 19 tries, 16 of which were converted by Jake Bentley.
The try scorers were Josh Howarth (2), Luke Cowdell (3), Alex Gillson, Spencer Wood, Jay Walsh (2), Jack De'Ath, Harry Wales and Noel Gillson.
The remaining 7 tries were scored by Will Howarth creating a Club record for tries scored in a game and at the same time breaking the Club's all time record for a season with 40 tries.
The visitors only score was a penalty try in the first half following an indiscretion by the home team when Richmondshire were moving a rolling maul forward just short of the home try line.
Yes, it was a tough day for Richmondshire but their team spirit and attitude earned the full respect of all the Home team and supporters and they could return to Ricmond with their heads held high.
