After something like 3 inches of rain on Friday the pitch was amazingly in fine condition and a pleasant afternoon with a light westerly breeze promised a good game against visitors from Hessle.
The visitors were the first to take control and spent much of the first 15 minutes in the home half but good defence limited them to one penalty goal.
'Ensians then clicked and from a penalty gained a good touch ,a lineout by Ali Campbell, and the ball passed to Jay Walsh who crashed over for an unconverted try.
Another attack 5 minutes later resulted in speedy winger Eithan Heede outpacing the defence for another unconverted try.
A penalty goal by Jake Bentley after 25 minutes increased the score to 13 points to 3.
The heavy Hessle forwards were tiring and the home team took control of the remainder of the half scoring 3 more tries(-a second one by Jay Walsh and two by quicksilver Will Howarth) ,all 3 converted by Jake Bentley .
The half time score was 34 points to 3 in favour of the hosts.
Straight after the restart 'Ensians fine interplay between forwards and backs resulted in an unconverted try by Ali Campbell They continued to press in the visitors half for about 15 minutes with ascendancy in the scrums and Harry Gillson and Craig Nicholson working hard in the loose.
Hessle came back scoring an unconverted try..A bizarre event after 30 minutes when a visitor pulled back Will Howarth by the shirt when chasing a chip ahead resulted in a penalty try for 'Ensians.
Hessle pressed hard for much of the last 10 minutes scoring a converted try.to make a final score of 46 –15 giving 'Ensians a bonus point win but note the second half was drawn demonstrating the determination of the Hessle team.
