A good win for Ensians

Old Otliensians hosted old rivals Leeds Modernians at Chaffer's Field on a dry cool afternoon with a nagging breeze down the valley

The home team took advantage of the wind in the first half Play was pretty even for the first quarter but then two tries came in quick succession by wingers Will Howarth and Eithan Heede who raced in to score the first converted by Jake Bentley ,to make a score of12 points to nil.

The next incident of note was after 36 minutes when a 50-20 kick took 'Ensians deep into thr visitors' 22 and from the ensuing lineout a great pass by Will Cooper enabled Luke Cowdell to crash over for an unconverted try .On the cusp of half time a big tackle by Will Cooper caused the Mods player to drop the ball which was pounced on by Jake Bentley who outpaced the defence from 30 metres to score and convert a try to give 'Ensians 24—nil lead at half time.

The second half started with the visitors taking advantage of the breeze and scoring a penalty goal on 8 minutes .The blues came back when a penalty kick, lineout and drive gave Will Bowie an unconverted try.

Then after 23 minutes fine open play by the home team resulted in two tries in quick succession by Connor Bateman and Will Howarth the second one converted by Jake Bentley to increase the score to 41 points t0 3

Not to be outdone Mods were giving the home defence a testing time in the home 22 and were rewarded with an unconverted try from a lineout and maul.

The game ended in the visitors' 22 with a flurry of passes from the home team reminiscent of 7 a side rugby culminating in Sam Featherstone scoring an unconverted try to give a final score of 48 points t0 8.

For the first time since lockdown 'Ensians fielded a second team of youth and experience beating a Rodillians team by 31 points to 14 .The atmosphere in the Clubhouse after both games was electric.
