OORUFC 1stXV 28 vs 0 Sheffield Oaks

On yet another lovely warm day with a westerly breeze 'Ensians entertained newly promoted Sheffield Oaks at Chaffers Field for a Yorkshire League 4 match.

Playing against the breeze 'Ensians kicked off only for the Oaks' player to knock on. Playing advantage the ball sped across the home backs for Luke Freer to score a try converted by Ben Hatton.'Ensians continued to attack with Sam Featherstone and Ali Campbell winning good lineout ball and Lee O'Donnell outstanding in the loose.

However the Oaks defence held and after 15 minutes their strong forwards took play into the 'Ensians 22 and spent the next 10 minutes within 10 metres of the line but the home defence stood up to everything Oaks had to give and held them out.

Play them became scrappy with the Oaks pushing the 'Ensians forwards backwards in the scrums and 'Ensians unable to use their superior backs.

As the fitness of the Home team became apparent towards half time play moved into the Oaks 22 .Oaks conceded a free kick at a scrum and on the stroke of half time Rob Arbuckle barged over for a well deserved try converted by Ben Hatton to make a half time score of 14 to Nil in favour of 'Ensians.

Playing with the strengthening wind 'Ensians started with a great move started by Rob Arbuckle and passing across to winger Declan Jackson who was pulled down a few yards short of the line. The Oaks forwards playing to their strengths and keeping the ball tight counter attacked strongly and spent another 10 minutes in the home 22 coming within inches of scoring on numerous occasions. The 'Ensian defence was magnificent in holding the visitors at bay.

After 25 minutes Josh Howarth broke out taking play into the Oaks half and 'Ensians had a strong period of attack but the Oaks defence held firm. After 36 minutes Ali Campbell gained great lineout ball which was passed to Luke Cowdell who scored near the posts converted by Ben Hatton to make the score 21 - Nil.

The spectators wondered if there was time to score another try to get the bonus point, and a couple of minutes later Luke Cowdell broke through numerous tackles to score a try also converted by Ben Hatton making a final score of 28 points to nil.

This was a good win for 'Ensians in an entertaining match but the Oaks never gave up and gave the home team a tough test especially in the forwards
