Having put up a spirited performance last week in the Aire/Wharfe Cup, ‘Ensians came up with a disappointingly  patchy performance in this Plate encounter. Despite playing into a strong wind, the visitors soon showed their handling skills with a try on 10 minutes. The hosts reduced the deficit on 14 minutes with a long-range penalty from Matt Tenniswood to move the score to 5 – 3.

Home winger Toby Gillatt was tackled on the line and then West Leeds used good interplay between forwards and backs to produce a try on 34 minutes, taking their advantage to 10 – 3 at the break.

Against the wind, careless handling by the home side gifted two breakaway tries to the visitors on 45 and 48 minutes stretching their lead to 24 – 3. At last ‘Ensians started putting some good phases of play together and they were rewarded with a try in the corner from winger Nick  Keinhorst on 58 minutes making the score 24 – 8.

‘Ensians then tried to move the ball about at every opportunity, but the wind and hurried passing gave the visitors chances to snap up loose ball and run in two more converted tries to give West Leeds a comfortable  38 – 8 win.
